i love watching shows like Resident Evil, The Island etc.
those experiment-gone-wrong/the-whole-world-is-infected-except-me kinda shows.
the plot's always pretty much the same,
but i just love the gore.

not surprising that i also love The Hills Have Eyes (pointless show),
Saw 1 2 3 4 5,
Final Destination 1 2 3 (btw, fd 4 is coming out sometime this yr, IN 3D MWAHAHAHAHAA),
House of Wax (paris hilton!),
Hostel,
etcetc.

yet another amazing episode of NGC's In the Womb.
it is really amazing to have whatever you've read in books, on screen!
they followed the development of 4 embryos:
1) kangaroo
2) shark
3) penguin
4) not really an animal - the parasitoid wasp

i felt the saddest for the shark and wasp.

they focused on the lemon shark, but did talk a bit about the sand shark.
it's quite sad, the embryo of the sand shark actually develops teeth within a few weeks in the womb, and the strongest one will kill off any other siblings present, for food.
what the mom does is she releases more unfertilized eggs as a source of food and nutrition for the developing shark.

ok then the wasp.
it lays its eggs into a caterpillar.
after hatching they survive on the caterpillar's blood until they grow into really big things.
(occupying 1/3 the weight of the caterpillar)
at this point of time they would have developed a set of teeth, only function is to chew through the caterpillar.
after breaking free they immediately spin a cocoon around themselves for the next stage.
the injured caterpillar, instead of running away,
stays behind to take care of the cocoons! it spins a layer of protective web over them and aggressively fends off any potential dangers (like ants).
so in a way the caterpillar becomes their bodyguard.
the saddest part of the caterpillar's altruism is,
it starves to death just because it's always protecting those evil things that tore their way out of their benefactor's body.


but i still love in the womb nevertheless :D
